Step 1: Understand the Grading System
Each course carries a specific number of credit hours, and your performance is evaluated using a grade point system. The standard grading scale is typically as follows:
*(Insert grading scale here, e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.)*
Grade | Marks Range (%) | Grade Point |
---|---|---|
A+ | 85 and above | 4.00 |
A | 80 – 84 | 3.70 |
B+ | 75 – 79 | 3.30 |
B | 70 – 74 | 3.00 |
C+ | 65 – 69 | 2.50 |
C | 60 – 64 | 2.00 |
D | 50 – 59 | 1.50 |
F | Below 50 | 0.00 |
Step 2: Gather Your Course Data
For each course, collect the following:
- Credit Hours (CH): The weight or value of the course.
- Grade Point (GP): The numerical value corresponding to your letter grade (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.).
Step 3: Calculate Quality Points per Course
Multiply the Credit Hours (CH) by the Grade Point (GP) for each course to determine the Quality Points (QP):
QP=CH×GP
Step 4: Sum Your Totals
- Total Credit Hours: Sum the CH for all courses.
- Total Quality Points: Sum the QP for all courses.
Step 5: Compute Your CGPA
Use this formula to find your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):
CGPA = Total Credit Hours (CH) / Total Quality Points (QP)
Example Calculation
Let’s say you have completed 5 courses with the following details:
Course | Credit Hours (CH) | Grade | Grade Point (GP) | Quality Points (QP = CH × GP) |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 3 | A | 3.70 | 3 × 3.70 = 11.10 |
2 | 2 | B+ | 3.30 | 2 × 3.30 = 6.60 |
3 | 4 | B | 3.00 | 4 × 3.00 = 12.00 |
4 | 3 | C+ | 2.50 | 3 × 2.50 = 7.50 |
5 | 2 | A+ | 4.00 | 2 × 4.00 = 8.00 |
Total | 14 | 45.20 |
